Mnday, 13 April 1801

Alice Clarke, wife of Peter, at Rhos Ness in the parish of Wrexham on 29 January 1800 assaulted her new-born female child by strangling her and suffocating, choking and smothering her by putting her in a heap of manure, earth, lime, soil, dung and compost whereby she died (WALES 4/66/1).  She was hanged on Monday 13 April 1801. Salopian Journal Wednesday 22 April reports her execution and states it was delayed as "she pleaded pregnancy which turned out to be mere evasion."
